I love reading blogs. I think there is something exciting in getting to read a little about the passions, priorities, and personal lives of others. When it comes to blogging, people share a small part of themselves. It is much more intimate than a social networking site. When people write, they invest themselves. Actual thoughts and ideas are conjured up and flow through one's fingers onto a keyboard where words are processed. In my opinion, good blogs are one of the gems of the internet.
I also enjoy writing this blog. Since taking my serious hiatus from Facebook, I've had more time to write and to think about what I want to write. Sometimes the thinking part annoys me. Before, I could easily identify with sports writer Walter Wellesley who famously penned, "There is nothing to writing. All I do is sit down at a typewriter and open a vein." All my posts used to be simply the word vomit of my mind. Now, I think a little more. I edit a little more. (Haha - Or at least I TRY to edit a little more.) Oh, it isn't that I don't like thinking because I do. I am a teacher. Teachers are all about thinking. But, blogging and organized thinking is so much more time consuming than just quickly clicking across the keys with whatever pops up in my head. It makes this whole process so much longer than I want it to be!
And of course, whenever I get behind with my blog I just want to write and write and write which I know no one is really interested in reading because the post looks like a novel. However, the longer posts are great for my brain. I feel like I get out everything that has been floating around my mind!
Anyway, the blogs listed on this page are blogs my husband and I regularly read and there are few others that I like to frequent that are not even listed. If you're a mom looking for recipe and craft ideas, check out Our Best Bites. A couple of friends from my last small group just raved and raved about this site and with good reason! It is fabulous. If you are looking for an entertaining read by a complete stranger, check out Nine Months to Life. (The hyperlink is actually connected to one of my favorite posts by the author.) I also like checking out the blogs listed by my church and this one that is written by my pastor's uncle. Every now and then, I just stumble on a great blog whether it is about saving or going green or just being a mom. There are SO many out there just waiting to be read!
This blog is meant to be for family and friends. It is an easy way to share with them the in and out of our daily life. It is random and disorganized and sometimes a little bland, but hey, I really do feel blessed with my extraordinary ordinary (a favorite blog post title from one of my old blogs) and getting to share it is kind of fun, too.
