I've spent the morning deleting Facebook friends. I know it sounds odd, but last night I realized just how many pictures of Bethany I had posted recently and how many people had access to them. It scared me. In the excitement of being a new mom and wanting to share with the world how incredible and wonderful she is . . . I lost track of how important it is to be safe. The internet can be a dangerous place and while the privacy settings on Facebook are helpful, they can't help you if your privacy settings are all already set to "friends only" and you are friends with people that you are hardly acquaintances with.
In high school, I was voted the friendliest girl of my senior class. It was an honor and it still is something I consider very special . . . however, in my opinion, being kind, warm, and welcoming face-to-face is different than sharing personal photos and life details. I'm certainly not trying to hurt anyone's feelings, but I do need to embrace a sense of privacy for the sake of my family and myself. Don't get me wrong, I still love Facebook and have over 200 friends, but that is a drastic reduction from the 450+ that I had earlier this morning . Haha.
Will I keep this blog going? Yes. Why? Because few people read it and even fewer know about it. Marcus can look up how much traffic our blog gets and where it comes from with Google Reader. We can't see specific addresses, but we can see if someone in Germany visited and on what day. We can see how many visits come from Melbourne and how long those visits are. With our ability to access this information we've discovered this blog isn't that popular! It exists mainly for me to journal and to share with family and those friends who are interested.
I know this isn't the fun two-month appointment post I promised! That is still yet to come!
