Knowing Jesus

Accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior is THE most important decision we have ever made. We adapted this page from the website of our home church, Calvary Chapel of Melbourne. It is dedicated to knowing and learning about Him and also deciding to follow after Him.

  • Jesus is:

~ The exact representation of the Father God (Hebrews 1:3).
~ He is God, (John 1:1-2, John 20:28).
~ He is the second Person of the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
~ The Christ, the long awaited Messiah, prophesied throughout history as the Lamb of God who would take away the sin of the world (John 1:29).

  • He left the glory of heaven to come to earth, was conceived by the Holy Spirit, (Matt. 1:20-21), born a humble birth to a virgin, (Luke.1:26-31) and lived a sinless life (Heb. 4:15).
  • In everything He did, He pointed people toward the salvation that is only found in Him. He taught that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life and that no man can come to the Father but through Him (John.14:6).
  • Jesus was crucified on a cross in our place, died, and was buried in a borrowed tomb (John. 19:41-42). Three days later He rose from the dead in a bodily resurrection (Matt. 28:5) proving death had no power over Him (Acts 2::22-24), and appeared to over 500 eye witnesses (1 Cor.15:3-6).
  • After 40 days He ascended into heaven while His disciples watched, and now is seated at the right hand of God, making intercession for His people (Rom. 8:34). Now we can come to Him by grace, through faith in what He did for us, not by works, so that no one can boast (Eph. 2:8-9).
  • Jesus’ death on the cross was the payment for our sin, and now justifies us before a Holy God (Rom.3:22-24), so there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (Rom. 8:1) Those who have trusted and confessed Him to be their Lord and Savior and are actively following Him, will someday be reunited with Him either at the time of their death, or when He comes back for his church in the rapture (1Thess.4:16-17) to spend eternity with Him in heaven. At that time, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Phil.2:8-11).

Forgiven

Have you ever accepted Jesus into your heart? Life is hard on our own and we need someone to give us direction and meaning. We both have purpose and joy and ultimately a reason to this life just by knowing Jesus. If you want to know Him too, it’s not hard, even though it may seem a little overwhelming, but it’s the most important decision you’ll ever make. It’s as simple as coming before Him in prayer with an honest heart and praying something like this:

“Dear God,

I admit that I am a sinner by breaking your laws and commandments. I recognize that Jesus Christ died on the cross to forgive me of all my sins and has risen from the dead. Please forgive me of my sin and come into life. I repent of the way I have tried to live my life apart from You. Make me a new creation and help me follow after You with my whole heart. I commit my life to You today and forever. I confess Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Teach me Your ways, Lord, and give me the strength to follow after You all the days of my life.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.”
